Prairie Gleaners shipment headed to Ukraine

CYPRESS COUNTY, AB — The largest shipment of product from the local Prairie Gleaners society is now on its way to Ukraine.

Twenty pallets of dehydrated vegetable mix were moved out of storage and onto a truck yesterday.

That works out to over 10,600 bags, with each bag weighing about two kilograms.

The product was requested by Global Emergency Missions Society in Abbotsford B.C.

Prairie Gleaners society treasurer Jim Grossman says eventually, the shipment will help feed people from Ukraine.

“From here, it goes to Calgary, then shipped to Montreal and loaded onto a ship on April 20 and is supposed to be arriving in Gdansk, Poland by May 11,” says Grossman.

Grossman says after being trucked to Warsaw, the shipment will either continue to Ukraine or be used to feed refugees from Ukraine in Poland.

Meanwhile, work continues on the expansion of the Prairie Gleaners facility in Cypress County, with completion expected this fall.
