Hip-hop dancers make their way to Medicine Hat for dance competition

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The city will be host to a number of breakdancers from across western Canada this weekend.

Breakers from as far away as Manitoba will be competing in the name of hip-hop and community.

Last Standing – Volume 4 takes place Saturday, and dancers will pop and lock their way to the top to be crowned the last one standing.

The event was cancelled last October due to COVID restrictions, but now dancers are itching to get back onto the dance floor.

Aaron Melanson, one of the organizers of the event, says the hip-hop community is excited to come together once again.

“You just make lasting relationships and get to experience really what it’s all about,” Melanson says. “That’s what hip-hop is. It’s just everyone coming together and finding that common ground and listening to music, dancing and having a good time, that’s what it’s about for me.”

Last Standing kicks off at 2 p.m. at the Global Prayer House. There is a $15 entry fee for competitors, and a $10 fee for spectators.
