Kenney foe Brian Jean sworn in as member of Alberta premier’s caucus

Apr 7, 2022 | 11:38 AM

EDMONTON – The newest legislature member for Alberta’s United Conservative Party is now officially in the house and fully expects a seat at the caucus table.

Brian Jean was sworn in today as the member for Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche four years after he gave up his seat to retire from politics.

Jean won a byelection for the party last month on a pledge to fight to depose Premier Jason Kenney as party leader.

Others who have publicly and directly criticized Kenney have been voted out of caucus.

Jean declined to speculate on whether he’ll be allowed in, but notes he won a competitive party nomination followed by a convincing majority in the byelection.

Jean has said he believes Kenney’s policy failures, along with a tone-deaf, top-down management style, are alienating grassroots supporters and setting the stage for a massive NDP win in the spring 2023 election.
