River Run going in-person and remote this year

Apr 1, 2022 | 3:52 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Plans for the first in-person YMCA River Run since 2019 are taking shape.

The run will take place on June 18 and will be offered in both an in-person and remote format. In 2021 the run was held virtually and the year before was cancelled, both due to COVID-19 concerns.

Cancarb has been announced as the title sponsor for the sixth year in a row. YMCA CEO Sharon Hayward says the company, which has donated more than $40,000 and 880 volunteer hours since 2010, deserves to be commended.

“This support has been crucial to our Strong Kids program, which ensures YMCA day camps, fitness memberships, and youth classes are available to everyone in the community, regardless of their financial circumstances,” says Hayward in a release.

Peter Donnelly, Cancarb CEO, says the company is proud to support and work with the YMCA on this event.

“This is an important event for families and runners with a long history in our City. We are honoured to have our name on it as a supporter” and “we feel a responsibility to ensure the community our employees belong to is healthy and thriving.”

Last month, local Olympian and track star Sage Watson was named the YMCA’s 2022 Strong Kids Campaign Ambassador.

Anyone interested in supporting the run can contact the director of philanthropy, Helene Nicholson, at helene.nicholson@medicinehatymca.ca or 403-905-0317. For more information about the River Run, including registration, visit medicinehatymca.ca.
