Mega event coming from Big Brothers Big Sisters

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Big Brothers Big Sisters Medicine Hat is looking for some pedal power later this year.

The national Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada Mega Bike event will stop in our community on Sept. 17.

Executive director Holli Stadnicki and the local BBBS team is asking you to “hop on a legendary 30-person Mega Bike with your co-workers and friends,” adding Mega Bike is a team-building event geared towards corporations, community organizations, and groups of like-minded individuals.

Stadnicki says all the funds from the event will stay in the community to support local children and youth. Finding ways to raise money locally became more important last month when BBBS Medicine Hat cancelled the annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake event due to uncertainty around COVID-19 public health restrictions.

During the pandemic BBBS Medicine Hat has expanded programs to support the mental health and wellbeing of local children and youth, extending the Game On and Go Girls! Group Mentoring programs to include more children. The programs focus on healthy lifestyles, nutrition, self-confidence, bullying, and peer pressures, setting children on a path to reach their full potential.

The organization has recruited, screened, and trained more one-to-one mentors the Community and InSchool Programs, as well as worked on developing new programs for the 2022-2023 season.
