MEDICINE HAT, AB – Police responded to a call about bear spray on a city bus, youth assaulting a city staff member and a male with a large knife, all in a span of about nine hours on March 17.

At about 3 p.m. members of the Medicine Hat Police Service were called after a person allegedly discharged bear spray while getting off a Medicine Hat Transit bus near Kingsway Avenue. Police located the suspect, a 32-year-old male, a short time later. Police say he has been charged with several offences, including assault with a weapon.

Later Thursday police were called to the Big Marble Go Centre for a disturbance involving youth between the ages of 12 and 15. According to police, several youths were asked to leave the facility and began assaulting a staff member. Three youths have been charged with assault and one with causing a disturbance.

Also during the evening officers responded to a complaint of a male brandishing a large knife after a verbal altercation. The male was stopped at the scene and is charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace. Police say they intend to pay more attention to safety at licensed premises as they return to normal operations.
