Alive After Five coming back to downtown this summer

Mar 17, 2022 | 3:35 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – It’s alive, again.

Alive After Five is being resurrected and will return to Medicine Hat’s downtown this summer.

From June 22 until August 17, Alive After Five will take place each Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. in Riverside Veterans’ Memorial Park, directly across from the new Towne Square.

“The downtown is the heart of the city. I know we’ve got a lot of large areas around Medicine Hat and the box stores and everything but downtown will always be the heart of the city,” says Alive After Five chair Lorraine Dalla-Longa. “And the safer you can keep it and the more activities you have downtown, you will have people happy and out and I think everybody has to contribute to that.”

There will be bands, food and retail vendors, and children’s activities such as bouncy castles and a petting zoom she says.

Dalla-Longa has long been a supporter of and advocate for a thriving downtown core. She created Alive After Five about a decade ago, first on Third Street before moving to the park until the final year in 2018.

She said people she’s spoken with in the past few months have told her how much they missed the event the past few years.

“When we had Alive After Five the last time it was great seeing families come down,” she recalls. “They would bring a bag lunch or buy from the food vendors and just sit and listen to the music. This park is huge so there was always something going on.”

You can call Dalla-Longa at 403-977-1363 for information about how to get involved and keep up with Alive After Five on Facebook.
