VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Whitecaps have added to their depth in goal, signing veteran ‘keeper Cody Cropper to a one-year contract with a club option for 2023.

The 29-year-old American spent most of last season with Memphis 901 FC in the USL Championship, posting a 8-5-2 record with four clean sheets.

He previously played in Major League Soccer with the New England Revolution, Houston Dynamo FC and Cincinnati FC, making 37 starts and earning 10 clean sheets.

Hailing from Maple Grove, Minn., Cropper started his professional career in England where he signed with Southampton FC in 2012.

In Vancouver, Cropper will back up starter Thomas Hasal, who was elevated to the No. 1 spot when star goalkeeper Max Crepeau was dealt to Los Angeles FC in a blockbuster trade ahead of the season.

The Whitecaps are 0-2-1 to start the 2022 campaign and will take on LAFC in California on Sunday.
