Crews on scene of Ross Glen structure fire

Mar 13, 2022 | 3:46 PM

UPDATE– The Medicine Hat Fire Service says the cause of the garage fire Sunday afternoon has been determined.

Fire crews were called to the home on Ross Glen Drive at 2:17 p.m. Once there they found a garage fully engulfed in flames.

Fire Prevention Officer Carter Gramlich said the fire was contained to the garage and did not spread inside the home, although the house did suffer some damage. He said a fire investigator was on scene yesterday and determined the cause of the inferno.

“The information learned was that the occupant had been servicing a small engine in the garage and there were gasoline vapours present and a short time later he went to light a ciggarette and that ignited vapours,” he said.

An individual did suffer burns to their arms during the blaze. An SUV parked a few feet
away also sustained significant damage.

UPDATE– The Medicine Hat Fire Service confirm a detached garage was on fire earlier this afternoon. They say the fire was quickly spreading to the house, but crews were able to keep it contained to the garage.
