Walk-in COVID vaccines for children available next month

Feb 23, 2022 | 2:30 PM

Parents can get a COVID-19 vaccine for children between the ages of five and 11 on a walk-in basis for at least two weeks beginning next month.

The province says AHS clinics across the province as well as about 150 pharmacies and some physician offices will offer the vaccines from March 2-16.

AHS vaccination clinics will operate from 3-8 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 6 p.m. on weekends for walk-ins and appointments. Find a list of clinics at albertahealthservices.ca.

Pharmacies with extended hours and experience vaccinating children can also offer walk-in vaccination. Medicine Hat is one of seven cities where pharmacies will be added to focus on regions with under-vaccinated populations of five- to 11-year-olds

Walk-in vaccinations may take longer than pre-booked appointments and appointments can still be booked for children ages five and older on the Alberta vaccine booking system or by calling 811.

Participating physician clinics will contact current patients directly.

The province will assess the program after March 16 to see if it should continue.
