Sage Watson recognized by 4-H Canada

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Canadian Olympian Sage Watson is being honoured with the 4-H Canada Distinguished Alumni Award.

4-H Canada CEO Shannon Benner said Watson is being recognized for the positive change she affects in the world as an elite athlete, mentor, philanthropist and changemaker.

Watson is the very definition of a responsible, caring, and contributing leader, and Benner says they are honoured to add her name to the illustrious list of Distinguished Alumni Award recipients.”

The two-time Olympian said growing up on a cattle ranch near Seven Persons taught her how to work hard toward her goals.

In addition to her strong athletic performance, Watson is also recognized for speaking up to advocate against media sexualization of female athletes and was part of a strong movement that resulted in increased awareness and adjustment of camera angles during Tokyo 2020.

On her Instagram account, Watson expressed her gratitude for being recognized.

“I am so honoured to be selected as this year’s 4-H Canada’s distinguished alumni award recipient. 4-H was was a big part of my childhood and it taught me so much about leadership and what it takes to care for and raise animals. The lessons and skills I learned through 4-H have taken me to where I am today. Thank you @4hcanada !”

The award will be presented to Watson during the awards ceremony to be held virtually on Feb. 23.

Watson is gearing up for the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Ore. in July.
