Natural gas well slated for abandonment requires additional work first

MEDICINE HAT — Crews were slated to begin work today on a shallow natural gas well in Saamis Rotary Park in southwest Medicine Hat.

The well was one of four gas wells slated for abandonment in early January in various city parks.

However, staff discovered a wellbore issue with this particular well and it needed to be taken care of before abandonment could continue.

A coil tubing unit and wireline unit were scheduled to be on the site on Wednesday morning, and the city was advising residents they may notice a temporary increase in noise.

This phase of the project is expected to take two days, with further updates provided for area residents as work progresses.

The city says in a release the work presents no anticipated danger to residents from proximity to heavy equipment.
