COVID hospitalizations increase to over 1,500 in Alberta Monday

Feb 1, 2022 | 5:07 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Monday, covering statistics from the past three days.

In that time, 6,537 cases were confirmed across the province for a daily average of 2,179. To date, Alberta has seen 493,973 cases.

Of those, 37,468 infections are active while 452,939 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 587 people tested positive this weekend, or 196 each day.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the amount of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

Active infections in the region went up by 157 and increased by eight in Lethbridge.

Since Friday’s update, 35 Albertans died from COVID including 17 in the Edmonton Zone, nine in the Calgary Zone, four in the South Zone, three in the Central Zone, and two in the North Zone. To date, 3,566 people in the province died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 1,516 patients are currently hospitalized including 99 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks an increase of 20 for hospitalizations but a decrease of six for ICU.

Below are graphs showing how COVID-19 in Alberta has trended since the start of the pandemic, which can also be accessed with more detail here.
