33 new cases in city, 6,163 in province

One new COVID-19 death in Medicine Hat, hospitalizations up by three

Another Medicine Hat resident has died from COVID-19 and the number of people with COVID-19 in the hospital has risen by three in the past three days.

There are now eight COVID inpatients in Medicine Hat, two of whom are in the ICU.

There are now 822 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 81 of which are in ICU, and 3,380 deaths.

There are 663 confirmed active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Friday.

Medicine Hat has had 5,513 total cases – the 663 active, 4,771 recovered and there have been 79 deaths.

There are 33 new cases in the city and 33 new recoveries in the past 24 hours.

With the province limiting testing in the fifth wave, these confirmed cases do not accurately reflect the number of cases in the community.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News Friday that there are currently 34 COVID-19 positive inpatients in the South Zone with three of those in the ICU. In addition to the Medicine Hat patients, Chinook Regional Hospital has 21 inpatients with one in the ICU. Brooks Health Centre has three inpatients.

There have been 17,780 cases of the Omicron variant identified in Alberta, up from 17,548 Thursday. Of those, 523 cases are in the South Zone.

Among all, 77.5 per cent have received one dose of vaccine, 72.3 per cent have received two doses and 28.7 have recieved three doses.

There are 64,129 active cases in the province, up 1,396 in the past 24 hours, and 368,986 recovered cases in the province, up 4,762.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 436,395.

There are 6,163 new cases in the province in the past 24 hours.

The province completed 16,541 tests in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate is about 37.3 per cent.

Alberta has administered 8,007,767 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Among new cases today, 18.7 per cent are unvaccinated, 4.8 per cent have had one dose, 63.5 have had two doses and 13.1 per cent have had three doses.

Among current hospitalizations, 37.1 per cent are unvaccinated, 4 per cent have had one dose, 40.6 have had two doses and 18.1 per cent have had three doses.

Among Alberta’s total population, 79.9 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 73.4 per cent have received two doses 28 per cent have received three doses.

There are four city outbreaks listed on AHS website, one in Brooks and one in Oyen.

There are 2,956 active cases and 24,051 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 297.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Dec. 27-Jan 2 is 1.35. It is 1.34 in Calgary Zone, 1.30 in Edmonton Zone and 1.54 in the rest of Alberta.

At the last update from Nov. 29-Dec. 12, the numbers were 0.96 in the province, 0.90 in Calgary Zone, 0.99 in Edmonton Zone and 0.93 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 965 cases. There are 70 active cases, 889 recovered and six deaths. 69.9 per cent of all residents have one dose of vaccine, 65.4 per cent have two doses and 21.1 per cent have had three doses.

The County of Forty Mile has 372 total cases. There are 21 active cases, 346 recovered and there have been five deaths. 43.2 per cent of all residents have one dose of vaccine, 40.1 per cent have two doses and 13.1 per cent have had three doses.

The MD of Taber has 1,406 total cases — 74 active cases, 1,314 recovered and there have been 18 deaths. 50.7 per cent of all residents have one dose of vaccine, 47.2 per cent have two doses and 16.1 per cent have had three doses.

Special Areas No. 2 has 305 total cases – 20 active cases, 280 recovered and there have been three deaths.

Brooks has 2,311 total cases — 182 active cases and 2,105 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 24 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 559 cases — 23 active cases, 528 recovered and there have been eight deaths. 69.9 per cent of all residents have one dose of vaccine, 64.5 per cent have two doses and 18 per cent have had three doses.

The County of Warner has 868 total cases. There are 49 active cases, 814 are recovered cases and there have been five deaths in the county. 62.7 per cent of all residents have one dose of vaccine, 57.3 per cent have two doses and 9 per cent have had three doses.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 9,032 cases. There are 1,348 active cases, 7,618 recovered and there have been 66 deaths. Lethbridge County has 2,200 cases, 127 active cases, 2,053 recovered and there have been 20 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

Saskatchewan has a total of 97,545 cases, 9,252 considered active. There are 86,259 recovered cases and there have been 961 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
