City cancels New Year’s Eve Fest

MEDICINE HAT, AB – New Year’s Eve Fest is no-go at the Big Marble Go Centre.

The event has been cancelled following the province’s announcement of new public health measures on Tuesday.

In a release, the city also announced how other facilities participating in the Restrictions Exemption Program are impacted by the new measures.

Co-Op Place

  • Facility will see reduced capacity to 50% during major events (ex. Tigers games)
  • Facility will see reduced capacity to 499 people during ice rentals
  • Concessions will be unavailable

Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre

  • Venue will see reduced capacity to 499 people
  • Concessions will be unavailable

Hockey Hounds

  • No impact at this time

Kinplex

  • Facility will see reduced capacity to 499 people
  • Concessions will remain open

“These necessary measures come at a time when the number of active cases and hospitalizations are rising across Alberta,” said Fire Chief Brian Stauth, acting managing director of the Public Services division. “We must implement these measures now in order to help keep our residents and staff safe.”

The city physical distancing and masking requirements remain in effect at all city facilities.
