MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat College will delay the start of the winter semester, and classes will be online where they can be to start the semester.

Classes won’t start until Jan. 10 and will be delivered online as much as possible until Jan. 21.

The decision has been made to offer students and staff predictability given the rapid developments related to the spread of the Omicron variant.

“Through COVID we’ve focused on the wellness of people while providing access to the best possible learning experiences. The impact of Omicron isn’t certain, but we feel it is important that everyone enters the holiday break knowing what to expect in January,” he says.

“The short delay to the beginning of the semester allows time to adjust plans, then continue providing access to classes and services no matter what Omicron brings.”

He notes that campuses in Brooks and Medicine Hat will be open, health measures remain in effect, and all practicums, clinical, and other off site work integrated learning experiences will continue following the guidelines of the host site.

Students need to check college email for changes that may affect their program.
