DARTMOUTH, N.S. — Halifax Regional Police say a young boy has died after being shot.

Police say in a release that officers responded to a report of a shooting Tuesday afternoon in Dartmouth, N.S.

They say the boy was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he died.

No details of what happened were released.

Police say the investigation is in its early stages and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Mayor Mike Savage of the Regional Municipality of Halifax says the boy’s death is “senseless and heartbreaking.”

“The sympathies of our community go out to all who loved him,” he said Tuesday on Twitter. “Please share any helpful information with HfxRegPolice (Halifax Regional Police).”
