Crescent Heights drama readying SpongeBob Musical for next year

Dec 15, 2021 | 12:40 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Tickets are on sale for the first public performances by Crescent Heights High School’s drama department in almost two years.

In February 2022, the school will present The SpongeBob Musical, an adaptation of the long-running animated children’s sitcom.

“We find ourselves in the undersea city of Bikini Bottom, inhabited by happy-go-lucky and ever-optimistic yellow sea sponge SpongeBob SquarePants and his equally quirky circle of friends and neighbours,” reads a release. “SpongeBob, trying to prove to himself and the world that he is not ‘just a simple sponge,’ resolves to save the day when everybody else has given up all hope. A most unexpected hero rises to take centre stage to prove that the power of optimism really can save the world.”

The full-length production stars 70 students from CHHS, set to deliver “an outstanding musical spectacle with elaborate singing & dancing with a live band.” The production features original songs by David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Sara Bareilles and more.

Tickets are $25 and available at chhs.mhpsd.ca.

Shows are Feb. 2-5 and 8-12 at 7 p.m. in the CHHS Wahl Harker Theatre
