Power rates go up; natural gas rates come down in Medicine Hat for December

MEDICINE HAT — It will cost more to power your Christmas decorations in Medicine Hat this month.

The city of Medicine Hat has increased the electricity rate for December by over 3 cents per kilowatt hour.

The December rate is 13.184 cents per kilowatt hour; it had been 10.635 cents in November.

The city also has the option of a fixed electric commodity prices for Residential, Farm, Small and Medium Commercial customers.

The fixed rate for 2021 is 6.8 cents per kilowatt hour.

The rate for natural gas in December will be lower than November.

A gigajoule of natural gas this month will cost $4.79 cents, down 56 cents from the rate in November.

The fixed rate for natural gas customers is $3.50 per gigajoule.

Utility rates in Medicine Hat are adjusted monthly by the City of Medicine Hat, using average prices of other providers in the province.
