CYPRESS COUNTY, AB – A 34-year-old man from Saskatchewan has died following a fatal collision along Highway 41 North on Sunday.

In a news release, Redcliff RCMP confirm officers were called to the scene at around 9:30 a.m. for a collision involving a semi tractor-trailer and motor vehicle along Highway 41 between Range Road 23 and Range Road 24.

RCMP, Cypress County Fire Services and HALO air ambulance attended the scene.

According to police, a preliminary investigation shows that the semi- tractor-trailer collided head-on with a motor vehicle travelling the other direction. Police say the semi- tractor-trailer then went off the road and rolled over.

The 34-year-old male driver from Saskatchewan was found deceased on scene. A 30-year-old female passenger from Saskatchewan suffered serious injuries and was flown to Medicine Hat Regional Hospital by HALO. The 49-year-old male driver of the semi tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries.

The highway was closed in both directions for several hours. Police say the semi-tractor trailer was hauling two tanks of crude oil which caused a significant risk to the public. Sgt. Al Rivard with Redcliff RCMP later confirmed that no crude oil spilled from the truck.

Police say the investigation into the crash is ongoing, and no further updates are anticipated.
