Dozen straight losses for Tigers, tamed by top-ranked ICE

WINNIPEG, MB – The Medicine Hat Tigers have been no strangers to offence coming alive over the last few weeks.

Unfortunately for the black and orange, it has mostly come at their expense.

Saturday’s weekend cap in Winnipeg was no different, as the Tigers allowed seven goals against for the second straight game in a 7-2 loss to the top-ranked ICE.

Medicine Hat entered Saturday’s contest already shorthanded, missing Corson Hopwo and Oren Shtrom due to injury and star Lukas Svejkovsky missing a tilt with the ICE due to illness.

Connor McLennon started things off with back-to-back power play goals for Winnipeg, part of a four-point night for the Philadelphia Flyers prospect.

That 2-0 score carried over to the second period, where veteran Jakin Smallwood added to Medicine Hat’s struggles on the penalty kill with a 3-0 goal less than 90 seconds into the period on the man advantage.

The Tigers finally stopped the bleeding two minutes later as a bad angle shot by Owen MacNeil fooled Gage Alexander in the Winnipeg net.

However, the ICE answered back with goals from Smallwood and James Form to build themselves a comfortable 5-1 lead.

One night after netting his first career WHL goal in his hometown, Cayden Glover continued his magical weekend for Medicine Hat by deflecting a Gleb Ivanov slap shot with 3:04 before the intermission.

Just as the momentum began to swing back in the Tabbies’ direction though, Winnipeg restored their four-goal lead courtesy of nifty cut to the forehand off the win by Mikey Milne before the end of the period.

The ICE added a third period goal from the right face-off dot from Karter Prosofsky for good measure, adding to Medicine Hat’s losing streak with the convincing win on home ice.

Just two penalties were killed off on Saturday night for Medicine Hat, allowing three straight goals while down a skater to the ICE.

Garin Bjorklund had 35 saves in the loss, as the Tigers have seen 31 goals beat their netminders over just their last five games.

Falling to 0-9-3 over this 12-game slide, Medicine Hat’s next game isn’t until Friday night when they head north to Edmonton to face Jake Neighbours and the Oil Kings.
