Singing on Grand Ole Opry stage ‘a dream come true’ for Kelsey Porter

MEDICINE HAT, AB – From Medicine Hat to the Grand Ole Opry.

Kelsey Porter completed that journey on Nov. 12.

“I guess everyone kinda who plays country music dreams about the Grand Ole Opry stage,” she said this week. “It’s such an iconic stage and there’s so much history to it that it’s a dream come true to basically be standing on that stage let alone performing on it.”

Kelsey was backing up and singing harmonies on two songs for her sister MacKenzie.

She says it went by so fast that it’s a bit of a blur. But a couple of parts of the evening stand out to her.

“Just looking out in the crowd I saw my parents there, my grandma was there, they were in like the fourth row. That was a pretty big highlight to look down you see the people you love in the crowd cheering you on,” she said. “And being up there with my sister was a very unique experience. I didn’t think I’d get to do that, let alone do it with my own sister. So that was a really special moment.”

Even with years of performing under her belt, Kelsey admits she had butterflies backstage.

When the curtain was lifted and she saw the crowd from the stage for the first time she says it was a surreal moment she’ll never forget.

The opportunity happened thanks to the success of MacKenzie’s duet Thinking ’Bout You with Dustin Lynch. MacKenzie and Lynch performed that song as well.

You can catch Kelsey around Medicine Hat doing solo shows and playing with Rosetown and Taking August.

And she says MacKenzie has a new song called Pickup coming out in the next couple of weeks.
