MEDICINE HAT, AB — It’s an enduring iconic Christmas image, and it makes its return to Medicine Hat today.

The Salvation Army began setting up Christmas Kettles at various locations around the city Tuesday.

The annual campaign helps the Salvation Army provide services, not just at Christmas, but all year long.

Money raised helps with toy hampers, making sure anyone in need has a place to sit down, have a meal and a friend to talk to, and receive encouragement.

Capt. David Dale with the Salvation Army says they’re excited to be able to have volunteers back at the kettles this year after pandemic restrictions prevented that last year.

“We love the fact that we have people on the kettles now, with their bells and encouraging people to help support this great cause,” says Dale.

Dale says donations can be either cash or by tapping a debit or credit card.

The goal of this year’s campaign is $300,000.

Volunteers are always needed, and can call 587-253-0740 to sign up to staff a kettle this Christmas season.
