Redcliff to begin a new festive tradition

REDCLIFF, AB – A new tradition will start in Redcliff later this month, one that residents will be able to watch grow for generations.

The Town of Redcliff, the Redcliff Youth Centre and Redcliff Family and Community Support Services have partnered for the inaugural Christmas Tree Lighting and Winter Celebration on Nov. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.

“We’ll have Santa and Mrs. Claus here, we’ll have a couple of warm fires for people to stay warm with hot dogs and marshmallows and hot chocolate,” said Janae Ulrich, executive director of the Redcliff Youth Centre. “We’ve had a really great, successful year despite the challenges and the pandemic. So we just want to bring everybody together to create a piece of history in our community.”

The celebration will take place in Redcliff Legion Memorial Park, which has been spruced up with picnic tables, a basketball court and a gazebo over the past 12 months.

A Christmas tree was also planted and connected to power specifically for next week’s lighting.

The lights will be strung on the tree and gazebo and checked early next week to work out any kinks before the public celebration.

The celebration is about more than just the spirit of the season, said Ulrich.

“We’ve had some really great projects happen in our community, again despite the challenges,” she said. “We’ve been successful with the skate park, the youth centre is really thriving and just the community coming together as a whole. It’s been so nice to see some upgrades to our recreation facilities and the environment as well.”
