“Atmospheric river” bringing rain and heavy snow to B.C; winter storm advisories for central Alberta
EDMONTON — Rainfall, heavy snow or winter storm warnings remain up for almost all of southern B-C and Vancouver Island.
Environment Canada says the worst of the rain will fall on the central and eastern Fraser Valley, which could see up to 230 millimetres by this afternoon.
The rain and melting snow from higher elevations is causing mudslides and has led to several closures of major highways connecting the Lower Mainland and the Interior of B.C.
A winter storm warning for the Trans-Canada Highway through Rogers Pass, the Shuswap and West Columbia regions predicts up to 50 centimeters of snow.
