Remembrance Day ceremony being live-streamed this year

Nov 10, 2021 | 11:16 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A live stream of the Remembrance Day ceremony will allow people to pay tribute while protecting the health of the community.

Cook Southland Funeral Chapel will stream the ceremony from Riverside Veterans’ Memorial Park beginning at about 10:45 a.m.

Sheila Donner, president of the Robertson Memorial Branch 17 Legion in Medicine Hat, told CHAT News earlier this week that more than 150 people will take part in the traditional ceremony at the park.

Members from Canadian Forces Base Suffield, BATUS, South Alberta Light Horse, Medicine Hat Police Service, Royal Canadian Legion and more will participate. They will form up outside the Esplanade at about 10:30 a.m. and parade to the park.

People are encouraged to line the two-block parade route. There will also be limited space at the park for the community to watch the ceremony in person.

The regular program at the Esplanade will not take place due to public health considerations.

The Family Leisure Centre will be open from noon until 5 p.m. on Thursday.

City Hall, the Esplanade and Co-op Place will all be closed to the public and Medicine Hat Transit does not offer holiday service.
