Premier ambivalent as Brian Jean seeks return to provincial politics

Nov 9, 2021 | 5:14 PM

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney is dismissing a challenge from a vanquished foe.

Kenney says fellow United Conservative Party co-founder Brian Jean is trying to settle political scores by announcing he wants to run again for the party.

Kenney says Jean has been trying to destabilize the party for years since leaving politics in early 2018.

And Kenney says he will not be distracted from the goal of getting the provincial economy back on track.

Jean announced last week he wants to run for the UCP in the upcoming byelection in the constituency of Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche.

He says Kenney is leading the party to disaster in the 2023 election and he wants to run to get Kenney out of the top job.

Kenney has yet to call the byelection but says if Jean wins the nomination, he will let him run under the party banner.
