Hidden Valley Ski Resort will be open this winter

Nov 4, 2021 | 10:54 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – It looks like skiers will be able to hit the slopes at Hidden Valley this winter.

The future of the season was up in the air as the province tried for months to find a new operator for the ski resort.

MLA Michaela Frey confirmed in a Facebook post that the hill will open.

She says Alberta Parks is seeking a long-term partner but if they can’t reach an agreement before it opens, the province will assume operations while that search continues.

There has been public outcry over the possibility the ski hill wouldn’t open.

An online petition, started by Scott Dent, the owner of The Boarding House, generated more than 4,600 signatures and counting.

“It’s really nice to see the community get behind something that’s that important to them and stick together,” Dent said. “There are some positives to social media and seeing what we can do as a community. Last year we saw a big increase in the amount of people participating in the sport so it would’ve been sad to see that momentum drop for this season.”

Hidden Valley says it’s working out the logistics for the season and will be looking for staff soon.
