Medicine Hat College helping nurses re-enter the field

Nov 2, 2021 | 11:49 AM

Medicine Hat, AB–Medicine Hat College has announced it will be offering a practical nurse refresher certificate starting in September 2022.

The College’s School of Health and Community Services has been given approval from the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) to offer the one year program.

The progam is aimed at helping nurses re-enter the field with the competencies required to meet the evolving demands of the health care system.

Sandy Fritz, Chair of Health says “students will gain the knowledge, skills and practical abilities required by the CLPNA. “The licensed practical nurse (LPN) scope of practice has broadened significantly within the decade, increasing the demand for nurses to acquire a wider range of knowledge and skills,” says Fritz.

The certificate program will offer a combination of theory, hands-on learning in labs and a clinical practicum. Graduates are eligible for re-licensing through CLPNA.
