Care home gives details on COVID-19 outbreak, deaths

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Details concerning a deadly outbreak of COVID-19 at a Medicine Hat continuing care home were released today.

In a statement to CHAT News, the parent company of Good Samaritan Southridge Village said that since Sept. 1 a total of eight people have died at the long-term care facility.

The outbreak began on Sept. 1. At least one of the eight deaths reported appears to have happened in the past five days, based on numbers released on the company’s website.

There are also seven residents of the home who currently have COVID, and a total of four employees who have the virus.

Twenty-one residents have recovered, along with 19 employees.
