City fire recruitment ends Friday

MEDICINE HAT, AB – There are just a few days left to apply for the Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Services current recruitment.

Deputy Chief Chad Eakins says the competitive, multi-step process of being hired as a firefighter in our city happens every few years.

This year’s recruitment ends on Friday and applicants must submit an online application by then. The standards are the same for men and women.

Those who meet the minimum requirements will then have to do an aptitude test, job skills assessment, interviews and a station assessment.

Eakins says the fire department then creates an eligibility list for potential openings.

“We are hopeful this recruitment we’ll be able to run everything as we normally would have in person, but we have the ability to adjust if need be based on restrictions,” Eakins said.

Past recruitments saw 150 to 200 eligible candidates.
