Preliminary municipal elections results across southwestern Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The big topic of discussion in Alberta Tuesday morning is the 2021 municipal elections. Unofficial election results have been released by communities across the province.

In Lethbridge, Blaine Hyggen is projected to be the next mayor of the city, narrowly defeating Bridget Mearns. Hyggen is projected to have won 42.79 per cent of votes, with Mearns at an estimated 40.97 per cent.

COALDALE

In Coaldale, former deputy fire chief Jack Van Rijn is projected to be the town’s next mayor, having earned an estimated 1,729 votes.

LETHBRIDGE COUNTY

Lethbridge County has released its preliminary results.

In Division 1, Lorne Hickey was acclaimed, with Tory Campbell acclaimed for Division 2.

With an estimated 176 votes, Mark Sayers is projected to win for Division 3. John Kuerbis is the projected winner for Division 4 with an estimated 181 votes.

Klass Vander Veen was acclaimed for Division 6, with Morris Zeinstra acclaimed for Division 7.

PINCHER CREEK

In Pincher Creek, the town said Don Anderberg is projected to retain his seat as mayor with an estimated 729 votes.

FORT MACLEOD

Brent Feyter was acclaimed as mayor of Fort Macleod. Town councillors are projected to be:

• Jim Monteith (estimated 581 votes)
• Werner Junior Dressler (511)
• Kristi Edwards (499)
• Gordon Wolstenholme (486)
• Mackenzie Hengerer (484)
• Marco Van Huigenbos (446)

CROWSNEST PASS

Blair Painter was acclaimed mayor for Crowsnest Pass.

The unofficial results have the following individuals projected to be councillors:

• Doreen Glavin (estimated 1,293 votes)
• Dave Filipuzzi (1,263)
• Dean Ward (1,217)
• Glen Girhiny (1,182)
• Lisa Sygutek (1,147)
• Vicki Kubik (1,081)

CLARESHOLM

Preliminary results from the Town of Claresholm show that Chelsae Petrovic is projected to be the town’s next mayor, defeating incumbent Doug MacPherson with an estimated 828 votes to 624.

Those projected to be on town council for Claresholm are:

• Craig Simmer (estimated 1,026 votes)
• Mike Cutler (1,026)
• Brad Schlossberger (1,017)
• Kieth Carlson (963)
• Rod Kettles (927)
• Kandice Meister (912)

The town noted that voter turnout is estimated to be about 46 per cent of eligible voters.
