BARNWELL, AB- Take a drive along Township road 100 near Barnwell, and your eyes immediately hit a sea of orange. Pumpkin season is here, and one patch near Barnwell is making it a full fall family experience.

The pumpkin patch spanning over 60 acres is the product of Johnsons Fresh Farms. The farm is famously known for its corn, but just two years ago they decided to give pumpkin growing a try.

“Our first year we started out quite small, and this time we have actually done six times as many pumpkins, as the first year,” Johnson said,

On Saturdays, their farm is transformed and open for families to enjoy. There are thousands of pumpkins to choose from, along with a hay bale maze for the kids, a paint-your-pumpkin station, and kettle corn for those who want to indulge their sweet senses.

As for how to find the perfect pumpkin Johnson said that depends on the person.

“Some people, they like their pumpkins big, others like them small but I think we grow some pretty awesome pumpkins.

The patch will be open on Oct 16. and Oct. 23 just in time for Halloween. On their last weekend, visitors will be able to experience a petting zoo, wagon rides, and pick out that perfect pumpkin.
