Province confirms 1,256 new cases Friday

EDMONTON, AB– There are 1,256 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed across the province on Friday, bringing the total number of active cases to 17,839.

Based on a seven day average, the positivity rate is 9.38 per cent.

According to Alberta Health, there are 1,101 people in hospital, including 250 people in ICU.

In Medicine Hat , there are 487 active cases, including 3580 recoveries and 64 deaths.

62 per cent of residents are fully vaccinated, compared to the provincial average of 75.5 percent.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News on Thursday that there are currently 124 COVID-19 positive inpatients in the South Zone with 27 of those in the ICU. There are 54 inpatients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with 11 in the ICU.

The same Alberta Health Services spokesperson told CHAT News on Monday that Medicine Hat Regional Hospital currently has 13 ICU beds, including 6 surge beds. There are 11 COVID-19 patients in ICU at this time.

In the entire South Zone, there are currently 36 ICU beds, including 19 additional ICU spaces. South Zone ICU is operating at 83 per cent capacity (including 26 COVID patients in ICU).

Chinook Regional Hospital has 52 with 16 in the ICU. Brooks Health Centre has seven inpatients; Cardston Health Centre has four; Bow Island Health Centre has three; Big Country Hospital, Crowsnest Pass Health Centre, Pincher Creek Heath Centre and Taber Health Centre have one each.

Provincially, there are 374 ICU beds open, including 201 surge spaces. There are 298 patients in ICU, the vast majority of whom are COVID positive. Provincially, ICU capacity (including additional surge beds) is at 80 per cent.

In Cypress County, there are 73 active cases, including 712 recoveries and six deaths. 53. 2 percent of residents are fully vaccinated.

The County of Forty Mile has 61 active cases, 235 recoveries and five deaths. 31.1 per cent of residents are fully vaccinated.

The County of Newell has 44 active cases, 369 recoveries and five deaths. 51.6 per cent of residents are at full vaccination status.

The City of Brooks has 157 active cases, 1852 recoveries and 20 deaths.

The Municipal District of Taber has 145 active cases, 952 recoveries and 11 deaths. 37.7 per cent of people are fully vaccinated.
