COVID-19 shot ‘could save your life,’ RCMP boss says after federal vaccination order

Oct 7, 2021 | 2:19 PM

OTTAWA — RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki is encouraging vaccination against COVID-19 a day after the Liberal government announced Mounties must be immunized.

In a tweet today, Lucki urges getting vaccinated without delay, saying it could save lives.

Lucki also thanks Dr. Peter Clifford, the RCMP’s chief medical adviser, for his message of encouragement to employees on the force.

In the message, Clifford tells members that getting the COVID-19 vaccine is critical to keeping safe from severe and possibly fatal illness.

He compares the vaccine to a Mountie wearing body armour because it could save their life if they get shot.

The National Police Federation, which represents front-line RCMP officers, says it is reviewing details of the new federal policy and will soon issue a statement to members.
