Medicine Hat College offers unique rapid testing plan

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Rapid testing for COVID-19 will come free of charge for students at Medicine Hat College, at least for this month.

Thanks to a partnership between the college and some pharmacies, MHC students won’t have to pay for a rapid test during October.

The school wants to ease the way for students with deciding whether to be vaccinated or not, according to Sandy Henderson, the college’s registrar and dean of student services.

Students who haven’t had the shot must have a negative rapid test result 72 hours prior to being on campus, while those who are vaccinated must upload documentation showing proof to their college email account.

Meanwhile, another post-secondary institution in Alberta, Mount Royal University, has removed 11 students for not having proof of vaccination.

But Henderson says it’s unclear if Medicine Hat College will ever need to take a similar step, considering the smaller student body MHC has compared to Mount Royal.
