Municipal Election Candidates Vie for Your Vote

In Their Own Words Part Two

Oct 6, 2021 | 9:54 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Municipal Election in Medicine Hat will feature the largest number of candidates in 20 years.

With so many names on the ballot, CHAT News Today has created a segment called “In Their Own Words” which is designed to help residents make an informed decision at the polls.

Candidates were asked for either a 60-second video or short written submission on why they believe Hatters should vote for them.

These are the candidates’ submissions CHAT News has received so far. More will be added as we receive them.

I am a born and raised Hatter. I am a father of two exceptional adult children, and a husband to a wonderful wife Denise that I have shared my life with for over 30 years.

I was honored to serve on City Council from 2004 to 2007, your elected candidate for MLA in 2012 and now as your incumbent city councillor. In addition to City Council, I have over 25 years of significant board experience, including First Chair of the MH & District Chamber of Commerce, Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta, and Chairman of the Board for Medicine Hat College to name just a few.

I feel my experience as a banker for close to 25 years is urgently required given the challenging financial situation the City finds itself in currently.

My philosophy has always been of balance. “A fiscal conservative with a social conscience”, means I do not want to pass along debt to the next generation (live within our means), coupled with investing in this beautiful city with amenities and services that we all can be proud of (love of community).

In my current role as a business banker and my prior social work experience, I have developed the necessary skills to tackle the many tough decisions a councillor must make. My motto says it all: Proven Leadership
