Nominations close Monday for municipal election

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The City of Medicine Hat is offering a few reminders days before the deadline to register as a candidate for the municipal election.

Nominations will be accepted at council chambers from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Monday, Sept. 20 for the positions of mayor, councillor and public and Catholic school board trustee.

There are eight councillor positions and five trustee positions for each board.

According to the city’s website, there are currently five candidates for mayor, 32 for council, six for public school board and five for Catholic school board.

Anyone running for mayor or councillor must have the signatures of at least 25 eligible electors. Those running for trustee positions need at least five signatures.

Municipal election day is Oct. 18.
