MHC cancels classes for rest of this week

MEDICINE HAT — In what will likely be the first of many announcements today from groups explaining how they’ll navigate Alberta’s new state of public health emergency, the Medicine Hat College has cancelled classes for today and tomorrow.

The College is working through the protocols and seeking additional direction for post-secondary education, but feels it must increase efforts to provide a safe campus environment.

That’s why classes, both in person and online, are cancelled today and tomorrow.

Here’s the statement from MHC.

At 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, the Province of Alberta declared a state of emergency to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. Updated protocols for organizations and individuals were also provided, some of which come into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday September 16, 2021.

Medicine Hat College is working through the protocols and seeking additional direction for post-secondary education. However, it is clear that we must increase efforts to provide a safe campus environment. We are therefore taking the following steps:

• Classes (in-person and online) are cancelled for Thursday, September 16, 2021 and Friday, September 17, 2021. This step will allow us to further evaluate the protocols as required by government.
• The campuses in Brooks and Medicine Hat will be accessible for employees to meet operational needs. Employees must use masks and maintain physical distancing.
• Students may visit the campuses but must use masks and maintain physical distancing.
