MEDICINE HAT, AB – New mountain bike trails connecting Gas City Campground to Echo Dale are almost 50 per cent complete.

The City of Medicine Hat is building 20 kilometres of trails and a pump track. There will be a variety of difficulties, including beginner, medium and black diamond.

Once completed, the trails will be well marked, so riders know what difficulty to expect.

Funding for the project comes from the provincial government through the Municipal Stimulus Funding program.

Project manager Michael Hirsch says the project is still under construction and advises riders to be cautious of areas being worked on. He’s excited about the project and says lots of people are now into mountain biking.

“I think the city was realizing this,” Hirsch said. “Obviously with Elkwater and Redcliff having some trails in place already, I think regionally the message that parks and rec wants to give out is that it’s going to be a great incentive for people to get out and exercise and a great addition to the City of Medicine Hat.”

The project is expected to be completed by next spring.
