Temporary disruption

One lane shut down on Maple Avenue next week

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Water and sewer work on Fifth Avenue SE will impact traffic on Maple Avenue next week.

The city says northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane starting Sept. 13 for less than one week.

Motorists should expect delays on Maple Avenue during the time and are asked to share the road safely.

The Fifth Street project spans from Maple Avenue to Allowance Avenue. The city is improving water distribution and sewer services, along with stormwater infrastructure in the area.

A short length of vitrified clay tile (VCT) pipe that stretches into Maple Avenue is nearing the end of its service life. As the pipe degrades, the city says, it is prone to collapse. The city will remove the remaining VCT pipe on the 800 Block of Fifth Street and PVC will be installed.
