MLA Drew Barnes ‘absolutely against vaccine passports’

MEDICINE HAT, AB – As more provinces across Canada implement vaccine passports, the UCP government won’t commit to a provincial passport and is instead leaving the decision up to businesses and event organizers.

Independent Cypress-Medicine Hat MLA Drew Barnes agrees with that decision.

Barnes, who was booted from the UCP caucus in May, says he’s disappointed the government hasn’t stayed consistent in the way they’ve handled the pandemic.

Barnes acknowledges the tough times the fourth wave is causing but says the best way to move forward is by taking care of each other.

“I’m absolutely against vaccine passports,” Barnes said. “The stress it’s causing, the fear that’s out there for people losing their jobs or a family member losing their job.”

While the province doesn’t plan to implement a vaccine passport, Albertans can still print or download proof of vaccination.
