Boat lake at Echo Dale to be temporarily emptied
MEDICINE HAT, AB – Planned irrigation work, upgrades and maintenance between several projects will force a temporary emptying of the boating lake at Echo Dale Regional Park starting on Wednesday.
“Repairs and upgrades to the current water treatment plant will ensure longevity and assured quality in recreational swimming, non-motorized boating, open space utilization, interpretive programming and irrigation to the park,” reads a release from the city. “Expanding the existing irrigation system will allow additional trees to be planted in the east area of the park towards the existing group campground in spring 2022 and future years.”
The city says the boating lake will be refilled in early October and restocked with rainbow trout in 2022.
The water treatment plant upgrades and the reforestation project are part of the 2021 Stimulus Projects. The federal government is funding $240,000 towards the water treatment project and $320,000 towards the park improvements and reforestation project.
