43 new cases in city, one new death

Province sets another fourth-wave record for new daily COVID-19 cases

Alberta recorded more than 1,300 new daily cases of COVID-19, the highest number since May 13, and hospitalizations have jumped more than 30 in the past 24 hours.

There are 525 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Wednesday.

Medicine Hat has had 2,465 total cases – the 525 active, 1,865 recovered and there have been 30 deaths, one new today for the second day in a row.

There are 43 new cases in the city in the past 24 hours and 45 new recoveries.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News on Monday that there are currently 49 COVID-19 positive inpatients in the South Zone with 13 of those in the ICU. There are 22 inpatients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with five in the ICU.

MHRH has 10 ICU beds, but Medicine Hat physician Paul Parks says they don’t have the people to man them all as they did in previous waves of the pandemic.

Chinook Regional Hospital has 20 with eight in the ICU. Cardston Health Centre has four inpatients, Pincher Creek Health Centre has two and Crowsnest Pass Health Centre has one.

Among Hatters 12 and over, 72.9 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 65.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

63.3 per cent of all Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update and 57.2 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 12,290 active cases in the province, up 630 from Tuesday, and 239,572 recovered cases in the province, up 677.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 254,245.

There are 1,315 new cases in the province in the past 24 hours, and 983 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 465 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 107 of which are in ICU, and 2,383 deaths.

The province completed 12,141 tests in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate is about 10.8 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,566,535 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Among new cases today, 70.7 per cent are unvaccinated, 7 per cent are partially vaccinated and 22.4 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among current hospitalizations, 80 per cent are unvaccinated, 3.4 per cent are partially vaccinated and 16.6 per cent are fully vaccinated.

The number of local outbreaks listed on AHS website has been rising across the city in the past weeks.

Outbreaks are currently listed at two childcare facilities – Building Blocks Childcare in Medicine Hat and IF Cox Kindercare Program in Redcliff. An outbreak at Iron Horse Energy Services was added on Aug. 27.

Outbreaks have been declared at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and a handful of other health-care facilities.

The city has the fifth-highest cases rate per 100,000 people at 770.8. The ID of Wood Buffalo has the highest rate at 27,426.9. There are 161 active cases among the small population of just 587 people.

Province-wide, 78.1 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 69.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Alberta’s total population, 66.4 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 59.5 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 1,266 active cases and 13,572 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 149.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Aug. 16-22 is 1.19. It is 1.05 in Calgary Zone, 1.32 in Edmonton Zone and 1.22 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from Aug. 2-8 the numbers were 1.25 province-wide, 1.09 in Calgary Zone, 1.41 in Edmonton Zone and 1.41 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 501 cases. There are 88 active cases, 412 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 54.5 per cent, the two-dose rate is 48.4. The county has the fourth-highest case rate per 100,000 people at 778.9.

The County of Forty Mile has 175 total cases. There are 14 active cases, 158 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 31.6 per cent, the two-dose rate is 28.2.

The MD of Taber has 659 total cases — 68 active cases, 585 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 38.4 per cent, the two-dose rate is 34.8.

Special Areas No. 2 has 121 total cases – eight active cases, 112 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,639 total cases — 81 active cases and 1,543 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 287 cases — 27 active cases, 257 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 53 per cent, the two-dose rate is 46.7. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 491 total cases. There are 15 active cases, 473 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 48.4 per cent, the two-dose rate is 42.7.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 5,214 cases. There are 195 active cases, 4,979 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,351 cases, 51 active cases, 1,288 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 31, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 54,688 cases, 2,372 considered active. There are 51,709 recovered cases and there have been 607 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
