Provincial mask mandate needed for schools, says ATA

Aug 30, 2021 | 11:16 AM

The Alberta Teachers’ Association says there are still inadequate safety measures in place for students returning to school soon.

The association says a provincial mask mandate is needed because of significant spread of the Delta variant and new daily cases totalling above 1,000 recently.

The province has said it does not plan to bring in mandatory face coverings, but school divisions can make their own rules.

The teachers group is also asking for increased mental health and teaching supports to ensure students get what they need.
