116 new cases in city since Friday

More than 11,000 active COVID-19 cases in Alberta, 400 hospitalizations

There are more than 11,000 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta as the province counted more than 3,000 new cases since Friday.

There are 544 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Monday.

Medicine Hat has had 2,391 total cases – the 544 active, 1,819 recovered and there have been 28 deaths.

There are 116 new cases in the city since the last update on Friday and 96 new recoveries.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News on Monday that there are currently 49 COVID-19 positive inpatients in the South Zone with 13 of those in the ICU. There are 22 inpatients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with five in the ICU. MHRH has 10 ICU beds.

Chinook Regional Hospital has 20 with eight in the ICU. Cardston Health Centre has four inpatients, Pincher Creek Health Centre has two and Crowsnest Pass Health Centre has one.

Among Hatters 12 and over, 72.6 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 65.6 per cent are fully vaccinated.

63.1 per cent of all Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update and 57 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 11,426 active cases in the province, up 1,771 from Friday, and 238,213 recovered cases in the province, up 1,278.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 252,010.

There are 3,056 new cases in the province since the Friday update, and 1,639 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 401 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 98 of which are in ICU, and 2,371 deaths.

The province completed 29,269 tests since the Friday update.

The positivity rate is about 10.4 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,551,932 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Among new cases since Friday, 75.2 per cent are unvaccinated, 6.3 per cent are partially vaccinated and 18.4 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among current hospitalizations, 79.6 per cent are unvaccinated, 3.2 per cent are partially vaccinated and 17.2 per cent are fully vaccinated.

The number of local outbreaks listed on AHS website has been rising across the city in the past weeks.

Outbreaks are currently listed at two childcare facilities – Building Blocks Childcare in Medicine Hat and IF Cox Kindercare Program in Redcliff. An outbreak at Iron Horse Energy Services was added on Friday

Outbreaks have been declared at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and a handful of other health-care facilities.

The city has the fourth-highest cases rate per 100,000 people at 798.6. The ID of Wood Buffalo has the highest rate at 24,701.2. There are 145 active cases among the small population of just 587 people.

Province-wide, 77.9 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 69.7 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Alberta’s total population, 66.3 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 59.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 1,198 active cases and 13,402 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 146.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Aug. 16-22 is 1.19. It is 1.05 in Calgary Zone, 1.32 in Edmonton Zone and 1.22 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from Aug. 2-8 the numbers were 1.25 province-wide, 1.09 in Calgary Zone, 1.41 in Edmonton Zone and 1.41 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 490 cases. There are 89 active cases, 400 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 54.3 per cent, the two-dose rate is 48.2. The county has the fifth-highest case rate per 100,000 people at 787.7.

The County of Forty Mile has 173 total cases. There are 13 active cases, 157 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 31.4 per cent, the two-dose rate is 28.1.

The MD of Taber has 637 total cases — 47 active cases, 584 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 38.4 per cent, the two-dose rate is 34.7.

Special Areas No. 2 has 120 total cases – eight active cases, 111 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,619 total cases — 70 active cases and 1,534 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 284 cases — 25 active cases, 256 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 52.9 per cent, the two-dose rate is 46.6. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 488 total cases. There are 13 active cases, 472 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 48.2 per cent, the two-dose rate is 42.6.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 5,176 cases. There are 184 active cases, 4,952 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,340 cases, 44 active cases, 1,282 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 29, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 54,076 cases, 2,068 considered active. There are 51,407 recovered cases and there have been 601 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
