109 new cases in city since Friday update

Province has more than 5,000 active COVID-19 cases, city nearing 500

As Medicine Hat closes in on 500 active cases of COVID-19 the city will launch a campaign to encourage residents to get vaccinated and remain vigilant against the spread of COVID-19.

Details on the campaign, which will be supported by Alberta Health Services, will be revealed at a news conference on Tuesday at 1 p.m. CHAT News will stream the news conference on Facebook page.

There are 483 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Monday.

The city has the second-highest cases rate per 100,000 people at 709.1. Banff is the highest at 996.2.

Medicine Hat has had 1,841 total cases – the 483 active, 1,335 recovered and there have been 23 deaths.

There are 109 new cases in the city since the last update on Friday and 27 new recoveries.

COVID-19 outbreaks are being found across the city, including at a popular nightclub, continuing care centres and the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News on Monday there are 12 COVID-19 patients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, with three of those in the ICU.

Among Hatters 12 and over, 71.2 have received at least one dose of vaccine and 64.1 are fully vaccinated.

61.8 per cent of all Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update and 55.6 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 5,354 active cases in the province, up 916 from Friday, and 232,659 recovered cases in the province, up 490.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 240,346.

There are 1,407 new cases in the province since the Friday update, and 1,215 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 161 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 43 of which are in ICU, and 2,333 deaths.

The province completed 20,489 tests since the Friday update.

The positivity rate is about 6.9 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,443,763 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Province-wide, 76.8 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 67.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Albertans of all ages, 65.4 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 57.7 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 765 active cases and 12,606 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 139.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Aug. 2-8 is 1.25. It is 1.09 in Calgary Zone, 1.41 in Edmonton Zone and 1.41 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from July 19-25 the numbers were 1.48 province-wide, 1.50 in Calgary Zone, 1.37 in Edmonton Zone and 1.48 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 396 cases. There are 74 active cases, 321 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 52.8 per cent, the two-dose rate is 46. Cypress County has the third-highest cases rate per 100,000 people at 655.

The County of Forty Mile has 160 total cases. There are two active cases, 155 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 31 per cent, the two-dose rate is 27.5.

The MD of Taber has 584 total cases — nine active cases, 569 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 37.9 per cent, the two-dose rate is 33.8.

Special Areas No. 2 has 112 total cases – six active cases, 105 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,551 total cases — 13 active cases and 1,523 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 259 cases — eight active cases, 248 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 51.7 per cent, the two-dose rate is 44.9. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 475 total cases. There are six active cases, 466 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 47.2 per cent, the two-dose rate is 41.3.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 4,981 cases. There are 98 active cases, 4,843 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,288 cases, 16 active cases, 1,258 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 15, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 51,390 cases, 1,038 considered active. There are 49,766 recovered cases and there have been 586 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
