Medicine Hat active cases reach 401

MEDICINE HAT, AB– Case numbers of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat continue to climb. As of Friday there are 401 active cases of COVID-19 in the city, that’s an increase of 40 since the last update. Since the start of the pandemic, a total of 1308 people have recovered from the virus, and the city has recorded 23 deaths.

According to Alberta Health, 55.4 per cent of the population are fully vaccinated, and 61.6 percent have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

In Cypress County, there are 68 active cases, 314 recoveries and one recorded death. The percentage of the population who is fully vaccinated is 45.7 per cent and 52.5 percent have received at least one dose.

The County of Forty Mile has three active cases, 155 recoveries and three recorded deaths. Alberta Health said 27. 4 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.

The City of Brooks has eight active cases, 1,521 recoveries, and 15 recorded deaths.

The County of Newell has eight active cases, 247 recoveries, and three recorded deaths. The percentage of people fully vaccinated is 44.5 per cent.

The Municipal District of Taber has six active cases 569 recoveries and six recorded deaths.

Lethbridge County has 11 active cases, 1256 recoveries and 14 recorded deaths.

The city of Lethbridge has 89 active cases, 4839 recoveries, and 40 recorded deaths.

Province-wide , health officials confirmed 582 new cases of COVID-19. This marks the third day new cases have been above 500. The total number of active cases in the province is 4,438.

There are currently 152 people in hospital, including 37 in ICU.

The province also recorded one new death.

Alberta Health said 76.7 per cent of the eligible population in the province has received one dose, and 67.5 per cent have received two doses.

Earlier today, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health announced it would be stepping back from plans to end public health measures as of Monday.
