15 new cases in city, 279 in province

Medicine Hat active cases climbing higher; hospitalizations and deaths up in Alberta

Medicine Hat has added to its already record number of active COVID-19 cases.

There are 252 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Tuesday. On Monday, the city had 242 active cases, beating the previous high of 239 active cases on May 9, 2021.

Medicine Hat has had 1,556 total cases – the 252 active, 1,282 recovered and there have been 22 deaths.

There are 15 new cases in the city in the past 24 hours and five new recoveries.

One week ago Medicine Hat had 86 active cases.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News that as of Monday AHS South Zone currently has 14 COVID-19 positive individuals in hospital. There are 11 at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, with three of those in the ICU. Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge has three inpatients.

Medicine Hat has 370 cases active cases per 100,000 people, behind only Cypress County (451.4) and Banff (520.4).

61.4 per cent of Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update. 54.9 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 3,463 active cases in the province, up 83 from Monday, and 231,513 recovered cases in the province, up 194.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 237,306.

There are 279 new cases in the province today, and 513 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 133 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 29 of which are in ICU, and 2,330 deaths.

The province completed 5,424 tests in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate is about 5.1 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,398,611 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Province-wide, 76.5 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 67.1 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Albertans of all ages, 65 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 57 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 445 active cases and 12,494 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 138.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Aug. 2-8 is 1.25. It is 1.09 in Calgary Zone, 1.41 in Edmonton Zone and 1.41 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from July 19-25 the numbers were 1.48 province-wide, 1.50 in Calgary Zone, 1.37 in Edmonton Zone and 1.48 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 357 cases. There are 51 active cases, 305 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 52.2 per cent, the two-dose rate is 45.4.

The County of Forty Mile has 159 total cases. There are two active cases, 154 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 30.7 per cent, the two-dose rate is 27.1.

The MD of Taber has 578 total cases — three active cases, 569 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 37.7 per cent, the two-dose rate is 33.3.

Special Areas No. 2 has 108 total cases – two active cases, 105 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,541 total cases — 13 active cases and 1,513 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 256 cases — six active cases, 247 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 51.3 per cent, the two-dose rate is 44.1. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 471 total cases. There are two active cases, 466 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 46.9 per cent, the two-dose rate is 41.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 4,937 cases. There are 80 active cases, 4,817 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,277 cases, nine active cases, 1,254 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 9, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 50,679 cases, 634 considered active. There are 49,461 recovered cases and there have been 584 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
