Medicine Hat hits record number of active COVID-19 cases

Medicine Hat currently has its highest number of active COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

There are 242 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Monday. The previous high was 239 active cases on May 9, 2021.

Medicine Hat has had 1,541 total cases – the 242 active, 1,277 recovered and there have been 22 deaths.

There are 85 new cases in the city since the last update on Friday and 12 new recoveries.

61.3 per cent of Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update. 54.9 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 3,380 active cases in the province, up 661 from Friday, and 231,319 recovered cases in the province, up 385.

There are 1,017 new cases in the province since the Friday update, and 902 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 129 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 26 of which are in ICU, and 2,328 deaths.

The province completed 19,978 tests since the Friday update.

The positivity rate is about 5.1 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,390,219 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Province-wide, 76.4 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 66.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Albertans of all ages, 65 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 56.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 421 active cases and 12,481 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 138. There are 14 people in hospital in the zone, two in ICU.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Aug. 2-8 is 1.25. It is 1.09 in Calgary Zone, 1.41 in Edmonton Zone and 1.41 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from July 19-25 the numbers were 1.48 province-wide, 1.50 in Calgary Zone, 1.37 in Edmonton Zone and 1.48 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 357 cases. There are 52 active cases, 304 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 52.1 per cent, the two-dose rate is 45.3.

The County of Forty Mile has 159 total cases. There are two active cases, 154 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 30.7 per cent, the two-dose rate is 26.9.

The MD of Taber has 577 total cases — four active cases, 567 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 37.6 per cent, the two-dose rate is 33.2.

Special Areas No. 2 has 107 total cases – one active case, 104 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,540 total cases — 15 active cases and 1,510 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 256 cases — six active cases, 247 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 51.3 per cent, the two-dose rate is 44. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 471 total cases. There are two active cases, 466 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 46.9 per cent, the two-dose rate is 40.8.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 4,923 cases. There are 66 active cases, 4,817 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,276 cases, nine active cases, 1,253 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 8, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 50,614 cases, 650 considered active. There are 49,382 recovered cases and there have been 582 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
